What we are looking for


Tropic Biosciences is a biotechnology company focused on utilizing advanced plant breeding and gene editing technologies to develop high-performing commercial varieties of tropical crops which promote cultivation efficiencies, enhance consumer health, and improve sustainable environmental practices, using cutting edge genetic editing technologies. The gene editing techniques that Tropic has developed in its work to date will be utilized to alleviate the impact of climate change on rice production, while maintaining the plants’ nutritional benefits, improving the lives of countless people who depend on the crop.

We are looking for a qualified Lab Technician to provide the technical support required for the development and application of the GEiGS technology, through assisting the researchers in their execution of the experimental plans.

Key Responsibilities/ Tasks:

  • Carry out cloning required to produce plasmids containing GEiGS constructs.
  • Transform, maintain and harvest plants with GEiGS constructs.
  • Perform tissue culture and plant genotyping for experiments.
  • Assist with any other ongoing projects in the GEiGS team.
  • Maintain supplies and general cleanliness of the lab.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment and to raise any concerns to the relevant personnel.
  • Train and support other team members, as required.
  • Work according to protocols and SOPs.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s qualification in biology.
  • Extensive knowledge in Molecular biology (cloning, PCR, transformation, nucleic acid purification).
  • Follow protocols religiously.
  • Work in aseptic conditions.
  • Ability to handle large amounts of samples.
  • Ability to learn from mistakes and avoid them
  • Good communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and agility are required.
  • Good curious nature and a will to learn.
  • Seeing the bigger picture.

  • Job Location –Norwich Research Park, Norwich, England
  • Time Requirement - Full time position.
