Our GEiGS® (Gene Editing induced Gene Silencing) technology is used to edit non-coding genes so that their silencing function is redirected towards desired new targets. The technology platform is being applied internally for the development of valuable traits in our key crops. We are also actively licensing the technology to external parties, who are working on other crops as well as livestock and aquaculture species, enabling them to develop valuable traits in their species of interest.

What we are looking for

Reporting to the CCO and working closely with Tropic’s Commercial and R&D teams, we are seeking a Business Development professional who will identify business opportunities for Tropic’s proprietary GEiGS® technology platform, engage prospective customers, negotiate and close business deals and maintain extensive knowledge of the technology, competitive landscape and current market conditions.

As the Business Development Manager, Technologies, you will identify new business opportunities for GEiGS® and generate revenue through out-licensing of the GEiGS® technology and sales of services that support the platform. As a driven, self-motivated sales professional, you will be responsible for identifying clients globally that range from start-ups to industry leaders in the crops, livestock and aquaculture sectors.

Key responsibilities held by this function will include:

  • Market analysis to identify key applications for the GEiGS® technology platform.  
  • Active prospecting to develop a robust sales funnel of prospective clients for the GEiGS® technology platform.
  • Engaging prospective clients, helping them understand the full potential of GEiGS® and relevant applications.
  • Negotiating business opportunities, with consideration of near term- as well as longer term- revenue streams.
  • Working closely with Tropic’s VP Licensing and Strategic Partnerships to structure licensing and service deals.
  • Providing accurate forecasts of GEiGS® revenues.
  • Interacting closely with the Client Services Manager and internal R&D teams to align Tropic Biosciences’ service offerings with the industry needs.
  • Developing and maintaining Tropic’s CRM database.

Qualifications, knowledge, and key skills required

  • A minimum of 3-5 years relevant business development or strategy experience in the sector, with a proven track record of generating business.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to form productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient preparation and delivery of technical sales presentations.
  • Highly motivated, independent and target driven.
  • Varied travel schedule, estimated at 20-40% of time.
