What we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced plant tissue culture science leader to work in our Banana biotechnology team. You will be responsible for leading the production and QA process of all banana germplasm. The scope includes all embryogenic cell cultures up to regenerated high performing banana plants. You will need to have an extensive knowledge of plant in vitro culture, plant biotechnology and embryogenic cell cultures, as well as experience in managing small-medium projects to demanding deadlines as well as leading teams. Previous experience in banana somatic embryogenesis and regeneration is highly desirable. You will be comfortable with working in a dynamic, fast changing environment, and able to communicate complex biological mechanisms, methods, analyses and results to scientists from diverse backgrounds. You will work closely with other investigators to answer applied biological questions and will actively engage with external collaborators. You will need to be a proven team player/leader and your background must demonstrate a proven ability to successfully manage and deliver high quality germplasm and improve in vitro plant production in a timely manner.


Qualifications and key skills

  • Extensive experience in plant embryogenic cell cultures, somatic embryogenesis and plant regeneration in monocots
  • Previous experience in banana in vitro culture, embryogenesis and regeneration is highly desirable
  • Proven ability to successfully generate embryogenic cell cultures from plant explants
  • Quality Assurance on germplasm and tissue culture processes
  • Plant in vitro culture in an industry setting is highly desirable
  • Experience in scalable bioreactors for embryogenesis and plant cell culture is desirable
  • Managed small- medium teams (3-6)
  • Experience in managing and improving plant production pipelines
  • Strong communicator and team contributor
  • Strategic thinking
