What we are looking for

We are recruiting a Lab Technician to join our Banana Biotechnology team at Tropic Biosciences to work in the production of novel improved banana varieties. Your role will be to work in our dedicated tissue culture lab and support all stages of the production of in vitro banana plantlets. This job will suit you if you have excellent manual skills and are comfortable with working in a repetitive environment, where efficiency, precision and attention to detail are essential.

The role is available to all levels, from entry to experienced, and as full training will be provided, no previous knowledge of Plant Science or lab work is required. We are looking for someone with the right attitude and willingness to get stuck in and who fits in with the culture we have at Tropic.

Key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Maintenance of in vitro plant material
  • Labelling and recording all processed samples
  • Handling large numbers of sterile cultures

Qualifications, knowledge, and key required skills

  • Ability to follow SOPs repeatedly to the correct standard.
  • Work well as part of a fast-paced manufacture and production environment
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently where required
  • Accuracy in records keeping
  • Great communication skills
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude
